Speak Board is a free communication aid for clinic use. It is not a certified medical device, is not FDA-cleared, is not billable, and does not replace assessment by a speech-language pathologist.
Privacy: in Gaze mode, camera video is processed entirely in your browser and is never uploaded, stored, or transmitted.
Gaze modes: Auto — the camera watches your eyes (on-device face tracking, nothing leaves this device); look at a tile and hold until the blue bar fills. Head pointer — tilt your head to steer the dot; works even with unpredictable eye control. Both cursor modes are tuned to one user with a short dot calibration — the app asks for it the first time, saves it on this device under the name in Settings, and Settings → Calibration → Recalibrate redoes it (or switches to a different user). Directional — no calibration: look up / down / left / right to move a highlight, look ahead or blink to select. No camera or no calibration? Directional still works, and the direction pad in Settings gives touch arrows plus ● select.
Boards: tiles with a dashed border and ▶ open category boards — Words, Animals (Aquatic, Farm, Pets, Wild), Feelings, Food & Drink, Body, Activities, Numbers, Common, People, Places. The ➕ New button adds a tile to the current board or builds a new one from a pasted word list (your boards appear under My boards); Edit mode changes any board, and export/import lives in Settings. Emoji icons can be turned off in Settings — the words always stay.
Voices: uses the voices built into your device (many include male and female options — choose in Settings).
Tip: on iPhone/iPad (iOS 18+) and Android, the built-in Eye Tracking or Camera Switches accessibility features can also operate this board hands-free without Gaze mode.
